Autism - Can Feng Shui Help?

I received the following cry for help some time ago, and looking through previous articles today thought that the information might be helpful to someone else reading this blog.

"I have a very troubled teenage son! He’s always been a very emotional type of kid, he lacks self confidence and always needs reassurance.

He has been diagnosed as autistic and has gotten a lot worse since his girlfriend has dumped him without an explanation! Whenever he gets upset he smashes the walls in his room and the house generally. Can Feng Shui help?"

My response:

Our reflection determines how we see ourselves and impacts on our self esteem. When we see ourselves as chopped off, cut up or deformed in some way our sub-conscious takes in the message that we are not ok. This has a negative impact on how we perceive ourselves and adversely affects our experience of life.

Most households contain a variety of mirrors in many shapes and sizes, some functional, some decorative. Firstly I would look at every mirror and reflective surface and ensure it meets the criteria following;

It is extremely important that mirrors reflect the full head of anyone who will catch sight of themselves in that particular mirror. Tiled mirrors and mirrors that split our image including mirrors hung on a mirrored wall are not considered to be good Feng Shui. Aging Mirrors that have become cracked or cloudy are also poor Feng Shui.

One parent I know was experiencing difficulty with his teenage daughter who had taken to hanging out with a group the father was uncomfortable about the daughter associating with. He suspected that the daughter could be, or was about to partake in inappropriate behaviour or engage in unlawful activities. Knowing a little about Feng Shui the father decided to hang a full-length mirror with a very ostentatious frame on the inside of his daughters' wardrobe door. This became the mirror the daughter used to check her appearance prior to leaving the house.

Within 3 weeks the daughter started to take a greater interest in her appearance, and interestingly she was also changing out her circle of friends and associates.

Another aspect to look at is the condition and the position of your sons bed and any seating that he uses. The beds we sleep in and the chairs we sit in are the two most important items of furniture we have. They should be comfortable and suitable for the individual inhibiting them, saggy mattresses and broken chairs are not good Feng Shui. It’s also important to look at the history of the items. What memories, feelings and associations do they hold? Have they got connections to people, places and events that are less than excellent? If possible move on items that have less than excellent vibes, otherwise find some way to invigorate them with fresh new energy. A throw, new covers, fresh linens. Whatever you situation, find what it is, you can do.

Avoid placing beds under windows or against walls with water or electrical appliances on the other side. Whenever possible place yourself and your son in the power position, that is where you have a wall behind you and a view of every door and window. For over 3000 years we have been concerned about protecting our backs, suddenly in the last 50 it’s not such a big deal? Instinctively we want to feel that no-one can sneak up on us from behind and surprise us.

I once found a rear vision mirror attached to a workbench in an Auto Electricians workshop. Intuitively this employee had increased his personal security. The employee's workbench was facing a wall and into the corner, his back was exposed and vulnerable. The rear vision mirror enabled him to increase his sense of comfort and security. He had strategically placed the mirror so that he was able to glance into it to see what is happening behind him without having to twist and contort his body.

Next I’d take a look at your son’s bedroom. Does it contain any water, such as a fish tank? Is it lots of black and dark colours? Does it have a swampy feel?

If so somehow introduce more yellow, crème, or mid range browns (think of the colour of milk chocolate). Squares and clay/porcelain objects would also help to improve the rooms energy. This will help to provide a sense of grounding and connectedness for your child.

Choose sheets that are crème or mid range browns (think skin tones)

Avoid lots of bright primary colours. Remove electronic equipment and other stimulating items (exercise equipment, books, desk and study items) from the bedroom. If this is not possible unplug and cover them at night.

Ideally mirrors would not be present in bedrooms as they activate energy. If they are not able to be removed, cover them at night. Consider reversing doors of the sliding variety so the mirror side is no longer reflecting the room.

I'd also suggest you identify the Knowledge and Self Cultivation area of his room and of your home. This is the NE sector. This is a really bad spot for alcohol (and drugs or other substances used for abuse).

Somehow introduce anything that symbolically brings in the energy of "Still Mountain" (not a volcano is one capped in ice) or 8 to this corner of his room and the whole house. The earth I spoke of above is especially good in this area and the centre of the home.

Remember the last time you used crayons and paint?

Let's face it. We're all under pressure and often at a bit of a loss when it's time to step up, be true to ourselves and put our own needs first, putting it out that we really deserve, are entitled to do something, to invest in us.

When we packed up our crayons and paints upon leaving primary school, that’s about the time we learnt to put everyone and everything else first, to conform, to fit in and we packed away a part of ourselves. The part that insists, because it knows its important, that we deserve and are entitled to nurture ourselves.

There is a place for being considerate and kind and considering the needs of others, there is also a place to take care of you, you were born for an important reason. You have a purpose you need to fulfill, and now it's your responsibility to assure that this purpose is not only nurturing the very being of your soul, but fulfilling your destiny as well. How is this accomplished?

First remember that unassuming has no place in life. To quote Michael J. Fox, author of “A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Future…”, “… what’s happening to you right now, precisely at this instant, belongs only to you. Own it." Get on with it!!!

And to help you do that my friends Jan-Marie and Jenny at New Thought Entrepreneurs have put together a auction of 25 different healings, consultations and some exquisite jewelry for you to treat yourself too. This is your opportunity to help the Queensland Flood Appeal and Bag yourself a Bargain. My offerings include an In Home Consultation and for those outside Brisbane a Mini~Miracle session.

Enjoy the Journey!!! Debra :-)

Silver Rabbit calendars just hopped in

Hi there, Who wants to know what's in store for them in 2011?

My good friend Kathleen Aisthorpe has just released her unique calendars, depicting the Chinese Animal signs as never before and as well as an overview of the coming year starting 3rd February, she advises what's in store for each of us. In Kathleens' words "...the world of the Silver Rabbit, awaken your hearts desire and walk between chaos and order. You never know where you will end up. Stay true to your heart; use diplomacy and fairness and discover a world of ease and abundance. Conflict and controversy will banish you to the depths, only to be transformed in the crucible of the Rabbit magician. The messenger of mystery, keeper of secrets and holder of the key of life."

You can find out more by visiting http://debrajarvisfengshui.com/calendar2011

I have limited stock, so it's a case of the Mad Hatters Tea Party,
Don't be late, or you'll miss out!

As always - Enjoy the Journey!!! Debra :-)

Heartbreaking Flood Damage

How's everything?

Hope that everyone you love is safe and your homes are OK.

For those of you not in Queensland the sheer devastation of the floods is hard to comprehend. Boats, Pontoons, Tyres, and other debris being carried along in the fast moving river.

You see it on TV, read about it in the newspaper and it touches your heart. When you go out to help a friend, and discover that they no longer have a shop (see pictures) that put a lump in my throat.

You can see the tide line at the ceiling and in some cases on the roof of Houses where inhabitants are putting everything they owned on the front lawn. This photo is one house of dozens, all that's left is an empty shell. And the residents only have whatever they could carry when they evacuated. On the roads are cars whose owners moved them to higher ground that still became submerged, utes in places you have no idea how they will ever be retrieved.

My thoughts go out to everyone impacted, and really that's all of us in Queensland, all over Australia and right around the world. The devastation is huge and if the flood water didn't get you, it's likely it touched someone you know.

It's heartbreaking, and if my emotions are this high, I'm in tears as I write this, I can't begin to comprehend what those whose homes and businesses that have been affected by the floodwaters are going through.

If you like me, were relatively unscathed, what's a power-cut and loss of internet, perhaps now is a good time to rid yourself of that excess stuff you are holding onto, that you'll sort through one day in the future. Keep what you would want to save in a flood, fire or any other disaster and consign the rest of it to the bin.

Friends of mine moved back to the family home (a Queenslander) in Graceville during the year, their sons had been renting from them, and I know they were evacuated and many of their household items were stored under the house and that the water come up to the floorboards at the peak. Devastating!!!

A few years ago another friend was sorting through her stuff, what was sorted went upstairs, the stuff to sort was under the house including all her photos. She lost the lot! Her words "I wish I'd taken them upstairs and spent some time every evening to sort through and find the ones I wanted to keep."

My achilles heel is paper, ideas, courses, planning, goal setting, cards, information etc. I spent yesterday dumping boxes of it. I realised that last year I didn't review my aspirations for the following 12 months and hung onto all the stuff from 2009. All 2010 I was spinning my wheels, no wonder, my environment was clogged and anchoring to the past!!!

If you want opportunity and abundance in 2011 what are you willing to let go off to make room for it?

Best Wishes to all, Debra :-)

Feng Shui teaches us that everything is Alive, Connected and Changing...

These are the three Foundation Principles of ‘Chi’ (energy). Just as Acupuncture balances our bodies energy for optimal health, Feng Shui balances the energy of our built environment.

We know from science that what we see as Form and Shape existing in the physical dimension is merely dense particles vibrating. The chair you are sitting in is merely lots of molecules vibrating closely together which gives the appearance of solid matter.

Ancient cultures knew that everything, all animate and inanimate objects, are ALIVE with memories, feelings and associations. All objects are speaking to us all of the time, some give messages that lift our spirits and others reduce our excitement and enthusiasm (negative vibes), sometimes these vibes (good or bad) are barely perceptible.

Where the eye goes Chi flows. When cupboards are full of stuff that we rarely use and struggle to locate when required, then the energy flow is blocked. Where ever it is that we are living (even if it’s only temporary) is the built environment with the greatest effect on our life experience. Here are a few suggestions to get you started on increasing the beneficial flow of Chi in your home.

* Do you feel good about where you sleep? Invest in sheets that you love!

* Is there stuff under the bed? Ideally Chi flows freely under the bed and there is access from both sides. (i.e. The bed is not up against the wall.)

* What do you see in the morning when you wake up? Ensure you feel uplifted!

* What greets you when you arrive home? Improve on that experience.

One of my favourite questions during a consultation is: “Tell me about this?” Many clients initially respond with something like: “Well I got that when I split up with my ex.” They then go on to explain why it is totally unconnected to their ex and has no memories, feelings and associations of that previous less than excellent relationship. “It’s just wonderful and worth lots of money, and I just couldn’t possibly part with it.” It’s interesting how often that we reach the end of our time together they just can’t wait to get it out of the house! The connections of our belongings is a big deal!

Why do we hold onto items that have painful memories of the past? When we hold onto items that remind us of less than excellent situations in our lives, we are holding onto the hurt and the pain of that time. The objects we are holding onto connect us to people and relationships that no longer serve us. We haven’t let go, thus it is difficult for anything or anyone to come into the space. Do we want to continue to recreate that less than excellent scenario or are we willing to let go, allowing room for a different experience, a different outcome?

Sort through your belongings and consider these questions:

* Do I love this item or am I holding onto it out of GUILT and OBLIGATION?

* Is it useful to me now? If not, but it is useful to someone now, give it to them!

* Does it reflect who I am now in my life? Who I am choosing to become? or is it a reflection of where I have come from?… do I want that energy in my life?

* Does it act as an environmental affirmation for me? What positive and/or negative thoughts, memories, or emotions do I have?

* Does it need to be fixed or repaired, (28 days) and am I willing to do so now?

* If I moved tomorrow, would I choose to take it with me? If it is time to let it it go, am I going to dump, sell, lend or give it away and how, when and who to?
